The RCTC runs 2 core labs through the UCLA Clinical and Translational Science Institute (UCLA-CTSI) at the The Lundquist Institute campus.
Our CPET/PFT Core Lab facility supports investigators in pulmonary, muscle and integrated exercise function. The Core Lab will provide consultation, training, and services for clinical research. We perform:
Pulmonary function (including spirometry, lung volumes, diffusing capacity and impedance oscilometry assessments using MGC Diagnostics, Ultima system)
Muscle force, velocity and activity assessments (using Biodex, System 4 Pro and Delysis, Trigno electromyography equipment)
7-day Physical Actigraphy and clinical assessments (using DynaPort MoveMonitor, McRoberts)
Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (using MGC Diagnostics, Ultima and Carefusion, Vmax Encore systems)
Exercise ECG
The Core Lab is also highly-experienced in multicenter clinical trials using PFT and CPET measurements. We have acted in as the primary reading and quality control site in several clinical trials and we have produced methods for multicenter quality control in CPET studies.
The HRR Core Lab has a 20 year history in studying mitochondrial function, particularly in skeletal muscle. The core supports investigators in mitochondrial physiology and pathophysiology studies. We will provides consultation, training, and services for assessment of oxidative phosphorylation and the functioning of the electron transport system in isolated mitochondria, permeabilized cells, or tissue preparations. The HRR Core uses the Oroboros Oxygraph-2k High Resolution Respirometry instument.
